DB Problem

Well we were in the process of converting some of our databases to mysql version 5, but not any for Everywhere's Local -- unfortunately, our hosting provider managed to alter all of our db connection information without converting the specific information. Basically this means while the database is safe and still running -- the path to accessing the data no longer exists so the site can't access.

We're in the processes of getting it back up and running.... although it's taking a lot longer than we expected to get a response from the team's mistake.

Scheduled (albeit we just now got the news), our servers may be down until Saturday at noon. Apparently our rss feed went down or something, and we weren't notified about the server move that was going to affect our services -- the company did notify us, we just never got it.

So all services will be down until about Saturday at noon.

Scheduled Downtime in progress

Just a reminder, the scheduled downtime is in progress. The UPS is currently being serviced so the building doesn't explode -- well, short out, sparks fly, people get electrocuted, maybe not explode -- but it's in progress. If everything goes as they plan, it should be up soon, if within our time frame, by 8am.

We (the qrsevlo, Inc. People) are heading out for the night, and won't be in until tomorrow afternoon. So don't expect any "it's up" messages here, just check after 8am - or sooner if you want.

Scheduled Downtime

All qrsevlo, Inc. websites (Quantum Rift Software; Everywhere's Local; qrsevlo, Inc; Sex, Love & Friendships) will be down on Saturday Feb 24th between the hours of 12:00am and 8am (UPDATE: apparently they changed the scheduled dowmtime to Sunday Feb 25th between the same hours)
The building hosting our servers will lose power at this time to repair a backup power generator, and shouldn't take more than 3 hours.

The actual downtime should be from 2:15-5:15 central time -- however, given how the "shouldn't be more than..." times work out, we've expanded the window by 5 hours just in case.

If by 8am Saturday you're still unable to connect -- rest assured we know about it. Chances are they ran into another problem that just extends beyond our expanded window.

There will be no further updates on this, since it is planned.

Server being relocated

Our server is being relocated to a new rack -- we didn't realize this until just now, however everything is fine otherwise. Any downtime should be under 30 minutes.

Brief downtime last night

Last night we had an unexpected problem involving one of our database tables -- it got damaged. This caused the mysql server to crash, and a downtime of unknown time while no one was in the office (the people taking care of the server deleted a username that we use so our site wasn't able to connect). Once we found out, everything was back up and running.

We don't know if anyone had a problem, but we don't believe it was a significant downtime.

Had to ban IPs

Apparently our problem was due to numerous attempts to access the website via ip address (not url) causing the server to crash -- talking millions of access attempts every few seconds. Basically, an attack on our ip (that we just got!)

Now, while we're optimistic, we aren't going to say "all's working" since we have bad luck with that phrase. So we'll say, it may or may not be working, but odds are in favor if it working.

Unless something major happens, we'll consider it closed for now.

Apparently the problem's due to a ghost.

Once again (seconds after posting the "everything's fine), the website has decided not to work again. Files that are on the server aren't available to the website, then the site goes down. Few hours later it's up again, and the cycle repeats (all without any intervention by anyone). So hopefully it should be back up sometime within 24 hours -- that's the time it'll take for a support personnel to find the problem when the problem's happening, since when it's working, they can't find anything.

Everything's back to normal now. http://everywhereslocal.com AND https://everywhereslocal.com works.

While both SSL and normal is available, we're planning on the SSL to be used for any personal information (registration & payments). After all, all other information provided is posted on the website itself!

SSL added to the site.... problems should leave

We added a SSL certificate to the site! And all should be well.... but alas, it caused minor problems (https didn't exist). Then the web service was restarted so it'd all work. Mysteriously, some pages "disappeared" (web server didn't see them, but they're there). Now, the entire site says "bad_httpd_conf" as an error....

Supposedly, this will disappear in a few hours as it refreshes everything -- like it's done in the past. But it should be up again soon we'd hope.

Possible Problems

The network that hosts our server is experiencing problems that may or may not affect our website, database and e-mail. Existing data is still there, it just may be inaccessible.

There is no known reason for this at this time, nor is there any problem with the site at this time -- however as the problem is diagnosed, our services may become unavailable as things are updated, replaced and restarted.

On Wednesday the 23rd at around 10pm (pacific) the network where our server resides is replacing some backbone-like hardware, which will cause a temporary downtime of about 5-15 minutes.

We're still waiting for access to our files.... not sure why it's taking so long, unless there's been other problems or just a rush of calls.... but it will be back up and running at it's once-quick speed.

We're still waiting right now for an administrator to return and make the change with our website... currently the permissions have been screwed up, we can't access it, and there's a glitch on the main navigation (which is why the page isn't blank, but nothing shows up but the top banner, and some of the navigation links).

We're hoping to get it fixed within a few hours, apparently some of the administrators are busy doing other things at this moment, and our problem isn't a high priority in the grand scheme of things.

In the server move, username move, and another minor change, we've temporally lost the ability to modify our own files! A few things were hard-coded and have broken, and we can't fix them yet. But it should be back to normal soon.

Yep, it's shot. Or pretty much so... administrators are currently moving everything to a new server (or just doing a "remodel" of our existing one).... might be a few hours now, but at least there shouldn't be any problems once it's done!

Server crash update

Well, it's now an official problem that's made our provider's blog... it's down, admin is working on it.

Hopefully it'll be back up soon, we haven't really had any problems in over 2 years with it, so I guess it was "due". And all the power problems and other things recently haven't helped any.

But we'll be back up as soon as they get it working.

Server crash

Apparently our server has had a fairly big problem... It's either crashed, fried, exploded or something. Website is down, our ability to check on the server is down... but technicians are working on it as I write this.

Hopefully downtime will be minimal, but it could extend to a few hours depending on the problem.

E-Mail is working since it's on a different server.

Once again we're back up (almost sounds like a broken record doesn't it?) But for the inconvenience it may have caused our visitors and advertisers, all people with an active banner/sales flier/catalog has been given another month free. Of course there's only been about 8 hours of actual site down time over the past month, with most of it being an "act of god" but we did it anyway. I'm sure we'll hear no complaints over it.

Power has been restored to the datacenter, however currently our servers are still powered down until the administrators power them up manually.... it should take no more than 30 minutes.

Unless the site's still unavailable at that time, we consider it "back to normal" for now.

Another Power Outage!

We've been hit by another one, and this time a power generator caught fire! No estimated "back online" time as of yet, but given the past, it should be back up within an hour (5pm central time).

Everything's functioning once again

Everything's up and running already, actually it was a few minutes after our last update! But we wanted to make sure.

We still have a slight delay in e-mails, so to make sure there's no problems, we are postponing any e-mail responses for at least 12 hours -- mainly to let the servers work out any unknown problems that may have been caused by the power outage.

Good news... everything's working.... bad news, there's no power!

Yep... everything on our servers is working well, but there wasn't enough power to power the servers so they've shut off. Apparently the heat wave in California has caused the power company to lose power, thereby causing power fluctuations at our datacenter -- causing the datacenter to switch to power generators.... but causing minor problems all around making the site unavailable.

At least it's nothing bad, just an "act of god".... although it is annoying!

Don't worry, everything should be up and running ASAP -- or as soon as power returns!

Please note that any e-mails we receive won't be able to be replied to at this time, it's not that we don't want to, but there's no way for us to get messages out yet (power problem as well).

Don't worry, if you happen to have sent us a message, we do have it! (most likely at least), but we're currently unable to reply. It may take an extra 24 hours or so before you get a reply.

But the main site's up and running normally, so all other known problems have been taken care of.

Firewall problems...

Apparently a firewall has started blocking access to our site, our sister site, our database, and about everything else including our abilities to e-mail! However, we have no way currently to contact the provider to tell them it's down at this time, as they are working on fixing the problems on their end. After that's working again, we'll be able to contact them about the website being down.

Although chances are their known problem is our problem.

Everything's up and running as normal... had to drastically decrease the number of links that a search engine saw (removed 90% of the a href links, but kept the text), added a "crawl-delay" of 120 -- but everything's working now, and should be OK for a long while (or until we expand servers)

Site Down -- Manual Decision

Currently we have been receving up to 50,000 hits PER DAY by search engines! Unfortunetely, this has maxed out our servers, and taxed our bandwith making the site virtually unavailable to any people.

Search engines have also retrieved over 1.5TB of data over the past 24 hours, most of the data being identical.

As an example, about 95% of the visits to our site have been search engines over the past 72 hours, and 99% of the bandwidth used has been allocated to them. In addition, over 2 million querirs have been executed just for the search engines.
